(CBS 12) The man who helped grow the Honda Classic into one of the most fan-friendly golf tournaments on the PGA Tour is stepping aside as executive director.

Ken Kennerly took over the tournament in 2007. That's the year it moved to PGA National.

The Honda classic has seen massive growth in crowd size and charity fundraising under Kennerly, and the event was twice was named the "Most Fan First" event on tour.

Kennerly is moving on to lead Jupiter-based Popstroke - a mini-golf experience company partly owned by Tiger Woods. He will continue in an advisory role with the Honda Classic.

Andrew George, who had acted as the tournament's number 2 for the past seven years, will be the new executive director.

In a release from the tournament, George said: “I’m excited to continue working alongside our dedicated team to ensure consistent innovation and growth in all aspects of this marquee PGA TOUR event each year. In my 13+ years with the organization, I’ve been both impressed and appreciative of the unrivaled community support that we receive, and this has provided the foundation for success within our philanthropic endeavors across South Florida.”
