Celebration For Reopening Of Norton After Museum Was Closed For Expansion

Norton Museum of Art

Friday marks the 78th anniversary of the opening of the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, although the doors to the museum remain closed...that is until Saturday.

After a three year, $100 million expansion and renovation project, the Norton will reopen after being closed for the past seven months.

Norton Communications Director Scott Bernarde tells us the Norton opened with about 315 pieces of art and now features nearly 8,000.

We also spoke with Public Programs Manager Mariela Acuna and Curator of Education Glenn Tomlinson about the changes to the museum as well as the popular Art After Dark program, which has been moved from Thursdays to Fridays and will now run until 10 p.m.

The free Norton Opening Celebration begins at 10 a.m. and features performances by students from several area schools and universities as well as interactive events.
