Poker Tournament For Charity In Pompano Beach

A Florida rabbi shares his thoughts on the tragic shooting that claimed the lives of eleven people at a Pittsburgh synagogue.

"You'll never find a richer vain of human kindness than at that synagogue.  They really got it right, so this attack on them, this random attack is just horrific."

Rabbi David Kane once lived in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood and attended services at the Tree of Life Synagogue.

He says a main link between the recent mass shootings is that the standards of mental health care have declined.

"America has stopped supporting mental health care.  Slowly but surely every insurance policy cut it back, cut it down, and so now where people who probably need professional help, mentally, not just violent people but people who have trouble interfacing with society and the real world.  And we as a society have permitted the standards of health care to just go down the drain.  We'd rather spend money on making the median in the highway pretty than to help someone with mental illness get through the day."

Rabbi Kane is the volunteer co-chair of the 10th annual Howard Frank Memorial Deep Stack Charity Classic this weekend.

The poker tournament gets underway Thursday at Isle Casino Pompano Park with the main event on Sunday.

The event features over $70,000 in prizes and a portion of the proceeds goes to charity, including the Jacobson Family Food Pantry in Delray Beach.

Poker legend Phil Hellmuth, will be joining the Deep Stack Charity Classic. Phil just won his unprecedented 15th WSOP Championship Bracelet and also holds the WSOP world record for the most cash finishes (136) and most final tables (57).

Jeff 'Defo' DeForrest from Sports Radio 1230 The Zone will be at Isle Casino for the kickoff of the tournament Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
