Deputies Help Local Elderly Irma Victims Contact Out-Of-Town Family

posted by Joel Malkin -

We continue to highlight the amazing efforts of Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies in the days after Hurricane Irma.

They include Deputies Brandon Moore and Timothy Farrington, who were cited in an email from a woman in upstate New York, who thanks them for getting her in touch with her elderly parents in West Delray Beach.

Mindy Gradowitz hadn't heard from her parents due to their loss of phone service and she was concerned, knowing that their power was also knocked out.  Mindy reached out to the Sheriff's Office and the deputies rushed over to the couple's home to make sure they were okay, and then called her to say they were okay.

Officials say there were many cases just like this one where deputies promptly responded to requests for welfare checks by out-of-town relatives of local seniors.  When deputies discovered that elderly citizens had no power and their cell phone batteries had no charge, they even let the citizens use the deputies' personal cell phones to speak to their relatives.
