As School Started, Lake Worth Principal Tells Parents To Write Gov. Scott

An update on a story we've told you about in Lake Worth.

The principal of a charter school on the first day of school was asking parents to write to the governor in order to stop a medical marijuana dispensary from opening just across the street from The Academy for Positive Learning.

Renatta Espinoza has been upset about this since she found out earlier this summer that the dispensary, which will be an all-cash business, will be going in along North Dixie Highway, within 500 feet of her school.  While that is closer than a new state law allows, Lake Worth city leaders say that law went into effect after the deal to bring the business to the area was made.

There are concerns that the dispensary will attract criminal activity.

The Guardian Angels organization says if the business opens, they'll have members showing up to protect the children.  Espinoza has already sent letters to Rick Scott, asking for help to keep the dispensary away.  It's expected to open in a few weeks.
