Crimes of opportunity...that's how Boca Raton Police Crime Prevention Officer Gwynne Friters describes the latest crime trend in her city.

"We for a while didn't have a lot of cars that were being stolen, due to the advent of anti-theft devices.  However, we have seen an increase of almost about 50 percent from this time over last year."

She says the biggest problem is with drivers of cars that have push button starts, leaving their electronic key fobs in their vehicles with the doors unlocked overnight.

"We live in a very safe area, so our robberies are very very low.  However, it's our things that aren't safe...if you will."

Officer Friters says the department is holding a "Coffee with a Cop" event next weekend.
