Man Arrested for Theft and Assault After Stealing Sandwiches

Coral Gables, FL - A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing two sandwiches from a gas station and assaulting a police officer while being transported to jail.

Coral Gables police arrested 31-year-old Andres Ramon Negron on charges of battery on a police officer, battery, petit theft, and probation violation.

The theft and assault occurred on Sunday around 8:20 a.m. when officers responded to a report at the Shell gas station at 1492 S. Dixie Highway.

According to police, the store had been targeted by a man who stole various items and assaulted an employee.

Negron consumed two sandwiches worth $20 inside the store before leaving without paying for them.

He later returned and took an energy drink, leading to a confrontation with a store employee.

During the altercation, Negron forcefully slammed the drink and struck the victim in the back of the head.

After leaving the store, Negron was apprehended by an officer.

A records check revealed that Negron was on probation at the time.

As an officer placed him in the back of a patrol car, Negron allegedly spat at the officer three times, struck the officer twice in the elbow, and head-butted another officer.

As of Monday, Negron remains in custody with a bond set at $12,000.
