Did Snow Flurries Fall In Palm Beach County Yesterday?

For us Floridians, yesterday felt like the coldest day EVER! Waking up to temperatures in the 30's and an even colder wind chill is not why we moved to South Florida, am I right?

In fact, it was so cold yesterday that reports of possible snow flurries came in across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast! However, the National Weather Service has an explanation for us.

It was not flurries that people like Crystal saw in downtown West Palm Beach or Amber saw in Port St Lucie, rather it is being called "Graupel". The National Weather Service says graupel is a soft ice pellet precipitation or hail. The key fact about graupel is that it can form when temperatures are above freezing (above 32 degrees) while snow cannot.

You can see one listeners video of the "graupel" by clicking here. Personally, I say call it what you want. Snow flurries or graupel, they are both too cold for my liking.
