Swim Safety Top Of Mind As School Ends Next Week In South Florida

Swim safety top of mind with lots of pool parties planned to mark the end of the academic school year. Tara Montero with the YMCA of South Florida says Florida leads the nation in accidental drowning deaths of children younger than five, so swim lessons are key to survival. That includes installing alarms and barriers by home pools, remembering to take all the toys out of the pool when you're finished using them and designating an adult surpervisor who's not drinking or looking at their phone. So far this year, thirty-two children have drowned to death in Florida, including two in Broward County.
