Iconic Kissing Sailor From Times Square Photo?

I was at my doctors appointment the other day (during National Nurses week) and in walked a man (with a "handler") claiming to be the kissing sailor from the iconic Times Square photo. The picture was taken by photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt on August 14th 1945 after victory over Japan (V-J Day). He neglected to get the names of the two in the picture. Had to at least grab a picture with the guy with my wife Chrissy, but is he the real deal? Apparently there has been some controversy over the years as to the identity of the sailor who kissed the woman in the nurses uniform. Several men have claimed to be the REAL sailor. I'd like to believe this guy is legit...Carl Muscarello is his name. Click here more more on the story. The other sailor who claimed to be the "Kisser", George Mendonsa, passed away. Reports say that facial recognition has proven HE was the real sailor was. The woman in the photo, Greta Zimmer Friedman, passed away in 2016. Either way it was an interesting experience while at the doctors during national nurses week. I thanked Carl for his service. He is a retired police officer now living in Plantation, Fl, and maintains to this day that he is the sailor in the photo.
