Florida's Inmates Strike

Inmates across the state have begun striking, refusing to take part in any work assignments until they are paid.

Florida prisoners started the strike named "Operation Push" on Monday, claiming work conditions amount to "modern day slavery."

Florida is one of five states that does not pay inmates for doing things like cooking, cleaning and maintenance work inside prisons.  A statement from organizers of the strike says their goal is "to make Governor Rick Scott realize that it will cost the state millions daily to bring in companies" to do the work they do for free.

The inmates are also complaining about the cost of food items in prison canteens.
