WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12 —Dozens of dogs rescued from a Humane Society in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian, arrived in West Palm Beach on a super-yacht.
Monday, the 240-foot M/Y Laurel docked at the Rybovich Marina with 52 dogs in its hull.
Big Dog Ranch Rescue coordinated efforts with various organizations to give the dogs a good start in Florida.
Chase Scott, the spokesperson for BDRR, says most of the dogs came from a humane society in the Bahamas that got inundated with six feet of water during the hurricane.
Also on board the yacht, a Veterinarian from the Bahamas, Amanda Pinder, who made sure they were cared for every step of the way.
Pinder says the Bahamas is her home. She's based in Nassau, but traveled to Abacao Island to help.
"There's no other way to describe it but complete devastation,' she shared, "It'’s very emotional. You can't describe the emotion accurately but it’s just, you’re just heartbroken."
Now, Pinder just wants to find the dogs loving homes.
"These dogs are amazing, they’re the sweetest dogs you'll ever own. Potcakes is what we call them. They're the best," shared Pinder.
The dogs will be available for adoption in two weeks.
