The city of West Palm Beach is proposing stricter codes for gun clubs and shooting ranges.

The mayor will announce a plan today which would require these types of businesses to be at least 1,000 feet from any public park.  They already must be that distance away from public schools.

The city's planning board is expected to vote on the change tonight.

The Palm Beach Post reports the change wouldn't stop the planned opening of an indoor shooting range near Howard Park, because it's not for the general public.  It will be used mostly by current or prospective police and security guards.
