A group of western Palm Beach County communities has agreed to pay a law firm to help fight opposition to an expansion of State Road 7.

West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio says the extension from Okeechobee to Northlake Boulevard would damage her city's water supply, and two U-S Representatives agree with her.

But, the Western Communities Council, including officials from Royal Palm Beach, Wellington and The Acreage, are spending thousands of dollars for lawyers to get the project going.

They're also asking for money from local businesses that they say will benefit from the extension.
