They've been controversial since the first one went up, and now Palm Beach County leaders could decide to pull those red light cameras down.
Their future in unincorporated parts of the county will be discussed by the county commission on Tuesday. Palm Beach County's contract for its red-light camera program, which has been in operation since June 21, 2009 will expire this June.
There are 17 cameras in use at eight different intersections, not counting those within the limits of local municipalities. A study of crash data from four key intersections by Palm Beach County showed no change in the total number of crashes from before the cams went up.
