Another political figure is throwing in his hat to become the next president of FAU.

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux of South Florida says he has submitted an application for the job.

His announcement came one day after Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater of North Palm Beach said he is applying for the post.

In a statement, Gov. Rick Scott said LeMieux's interest in the FAU presidency was ``further proof that Florida's high-caliber universities attract the best and brightest talent in the country.''

LeMieux was appointed to the U.S. Senate by then-Governor Charlie Crist, to complete the term of former Sen. Mel Martinez in 2009.  He served 16 months.
