FAU stands to lose nearly $7 million of its funding for not scoring high enough on a performance model established by the state's University System.

The budget approved by Florida lawmakers called for $100 million in new funding and $100 million in existing funding for the state's 12 public universities to be based on performance.

Schools that didn't score high enough would not be eligible for new money and could lose some of their existing funding.
