Construction on the NewsRadio 1290 WJNO home with Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County is right on schedule to have the Izor family move into their new home for the holidays. The goal is Thanksgiving, and it's looking that way, thanks to all of the volunteers who have heard our call to help, and have been hammering nails.
We have also been asking for financial donations to help build these 19 homes at the Kennedy Estates II community in Jupiter.
Paula Portch is the Finance Director with the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. She says donations are the main way they get funding, not through the taxpayers. "When we get money from the government, it is a competitive grant and we compete against every other non-profit in either the United States or the state."
Paula says you, as an individual or an organization, have the opportunity to sponsor a home just as we are doing. "We have individuals who sponsor a house a year. We have individuals who sponsor a half a house a year. We have individuals who just make a $1,000 contribution each year."
If you have a corporation, Paula tells us that there is a tax program where you cna get 50 percent of the appraised value of the house, less the land, back from the contribution.
