The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says 2013 was the slowest hurricane season in decades. We did have 13 named storms which is one storm above the average. But only two of them became hurricanes and neither reached major hurricane status which is category three or higher. In fact, Tropical Storm Andrea, obviously the first of the season, was the only storm to strike American soil. In 2013 we saw the fewest number of hurricanes since 1982. For most of us, it did seem like a slow season and now we know it wasn't just our imagination.
